Olga de Amaral is a Colombian artist, specialized in Fiber Art. This exposition is the first big retrospective organized in Europe in her honor. It retraces Olga de Amaral’s career, starting in 1960, to bring to light the role she played in revolutionizing Fiber Arts and her contribution to the Avant-Garde movement of the 1960s to 1980s.

The exposition is organized according to Amaral’s different styles, showing the gold leaf art that brought her to fame, alongside earlier trials and experiments. This way, the artist’s creativity is highlighted, showing just how daring one can be with Fiber Arts. Considered a “lesser” art, reserved for women, Fiber Arts take on a different role here thanks to Amaral’s creations that transform the atmosphere of the exposition hall. Her works, a mix of knots, cotton, gold, weaving, linen, horse hair and more, create a feeling that is nothing short of magical.

  1. It’s so nice and exciting to see a your art lover take interest on and defend textile art! I went to this exhibition and it was magical indeed. It showed a great range of skills and techniques too. The tapestries and hanging threads were beautiful and like doors to another dimension.
